Why Use Halon?

Halon 1211 (Bromochlorodifluoromethane) is simply put one of the best fire extinguishants known to man.

Halon itself is not harmful to humans. Halon can replace breathable air in a confined space and so should only be used with adequate ventilation. In the event of a fire the risk of injury due to flames and smoke is much higher than the any possible risk associated with using halon to extinguish it. Halon 1211 is not listed as a carcinogen by IARC, NTP or OSHA.

Is using halon legal?

Environmental laws have ruled that no more new halon can be manufactured. However, existing halon can be legally packaged and sold until a time when the stock is depleted. Especially in race car fuel cells, professional racers rely on halon over anything else. We will continue to provide this kind of extinguisher available because absolutely nothing beats halon for putting out a fire.

Because our products are highly pressurized, fire extinguishers have to be shipped as hazardous materials. Accordingly, a $25 hazardous materials shipping fee must to added to freight costs for these units. However, if you buy more than one unit we will pay the hazardous materials fee!
